According to the Press Release, in addition to the above-listed operations, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Police Departments for the cities of Brea, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, La Habra, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Placentia, Westminster, and the California State University at Fullerton will be holding DUI  Saturation Patrols over the entire holiday season.

According to a Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) Press Release dated December 2, 2009, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting DUI roving patrols in the Cities of Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods on Friday, December 4, 2009.  The effort is part of the on-going “Avoid the 12″ DUI Task Force program.  These Multi-City DUI Teams will be targeting areas that high a high incidence of DUI related arrests and collisions.  Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to a Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) Press Release dated November 19, 2009, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting DUI roving patrols in the Cities of Stanton and Villa Park on Friday, November 20, 2009.  The effort is part of the on-going “Avoid the 12″ DUI Task Force program.  These Multi-City DUI Teams will be targeting areas that high a high incidence of DUI related arrests and collisions.  Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has received a three year grant to fund efforts to catch drunk drivers.  The grant, in the amount of $874,852, was obtained by the California Office of Traffic Safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The grant money is to be used to fund sobriety checkpoints and other special law enforcement activities to combat drunk driving in the County of Orange, California.  The grant funds overtime pay for deputies to staff DUI checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols and Court Stings.  Court stings are where drivers whose licenses have been suspended are followed as they leave court to see if they try to drive away.  In such cases, the drivers are apprehended by undercover law enforcement officers.

There was an unusual protest taking place in the City of Moreno Valley, California on September 3, 2009 at a Labor Day Holiday DUI Checkpoint that began at around 9:00 p.m.  On each side of the DUI Checkpoint signs, protesters held up their own signs that said “Return (Go Back) – Police Checkpoint”.  According to reports, the protesters were extremely angry about the checkpoint as they felt they were just a ruse to conduct searches, and arrest Hispanics.  Protesters pointed to the fact that Moreno Valley has a large Hispanic population, and that they believe they are being unfairly targeted at these checkpoints.

According to an “Orange County Sheriff’s Department Press Release” dated: September 3, 2009, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in the City of Dana Point on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m.  The exact location of the checkpoint in Dana Point is currently unknown.

According to the Press Release, checkpoints are part of a grant the Orange County Sheriff’s Department received from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety, and are set up to target drivers who are driving a vehicle without a driver’s license or who are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Funding of this grant was provided by the State of California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA).
